"I saw ODS as my own ticket to personal growth and spiritual wealth, but when I got back I realized that I had gained much more. At the end of the week, I decided to seriously look in to teaching as an option for a college focus. As I was told, I learned so much about myself after I went."

For over 40 years, Outdoor School has been a vital component of our public education system. Each year, thousands of families count on the program to introduce their children to nature, ecology, the environment, natural resources, and animal and plant life while keeping them safe, healthy, comfortable and inspired. Friends of Outdoor School raises funds and support for this exemplary program.

Friends of Outdoor School needs you!

Outdoor School:

  • Is a national model that provides hands-on learning.
  • Serves 13,000 sixth grade students throughout the region.
  • Provides unique leadership opportunity to more than 2,800 high school students annually.
  • Introduces students to careers in science, sustainability, teaching and children’s services.
  • Is a part of our local heritage.
  • Creates tomorrow’s conservation, environmental and natural resource leaders.

The mission of Friends of Outdoor School (FOODS) is to preserve the Outdoor School experience for all Middle School students in MULTNOMAH, WASHINGTON, COLUMBIA, CLATSOP, TILLAMOOK Counties and Beyond regardless of a student’s ability, experience, income or background. Outdoor School relies on the MESD for funding; administrative and staffing costs, for example, are covered by support from this public agency via school contracts. However, schools do not always have enough money to send their students to Outdoor School. Friends of Outdoor School, one of E² programs was created to help support the program from year to year.

Please contact Kim Silva at 503-257-1774 or ksilva@mesd.k12.or.us to find out how you can help.
